Living Away from the Rock has never been so close
For most of its civilian history, homeownership in Gibraltar has been confined to an extreme minority. On the whole, the residents of Gibraltar lived in either Government housing, or rented accommodation.
Then in the nineties came the reclamation- Gibraltar grew by half a square kilometre, enabling new high-rise apartments to be built. This was a major turning point for the property market in Gibraltar, it gave way to such
developments as Montagu Gardens, Harbour views, Montagu Crescent, Westview Park, Europort and Eurotowers- even today such developments continue to unfold, hence the announcement of recent projects. Nevertheless, with so many projects rushing to meet the incessant demand for homeownership, one market need was not immediately met - those who desired the opportunity to invest in their very own town house.
Sunset Close aims to cater for this market, locals who have always dreamed of owning a town house in Gibraltar, and although they have the resources to do it, they have never really had the opportunity. It consists of 21 units in total: 16 town houses, 3 maisonettes and 2 penthouses. At the time of writing, 60% of the development has already been sold, and this is in January, the commencement date for the project.
The interiors will be finished to a high standard, and will include timber flooring, a working fireplace, and a fully fitted kitchen. The charm of Sunset Close is its colonial architectural style. "The character of such a development is very important- we aim to provide our customers with a very private atmosphere" said BMI director Louis Montegriffo, "the location of the development is such that it offers its residents a chance to live away from the hustle and bustle of the town area, yet still be living in Gibraltar- we are giving the place the unique character and ambience it deserves."
Sunset Close is located on the site of the old Lathbury Barracks, an environment set in the South District, much favoured by many locals. Souwest Development Ltd., the developers of Sunset Close, are to knock down the old Barracks in order to commence construction. The estimated time of completion for the project is between 18 and 24 months.
One of the big selling points of Sunset close is that every single effort has been made to ensure that the place smacks of quality. Only the very best materials have been selected, and all different aspects of the development process have been tackled with the highest attention to detail. The point of this is to reassure the customer that the overall finish of the place is of the highest quality that can possibly be obtained.
The list of features included could prove to turn this development into dream homes for many buyers- double lockup garages, large terraces of up to 30 square metres, private store rooms, and of course, let us not forget one of the reasons why Gibraltar is the envy of many European countries- those stunning Mediterranean sunsets.
