Buying a part of the dream
In 1988, a company with over 40 years experience in the creation and management of golf resorts, saw the excellent potential for establishing a new resort in the stunning countryside of southern Andalucia - an area already established as a leading international golf destination. They acquired 340 acres of land from the Domecq dynasty in an ideal location next to Sotogrande and Valderrama.
The magnificent mansion, former home of the Domecq family, was converted into a splendid clubhouse with wonderful facilities, including two restaurants, a bar and a stunning patio overlooking the 9th and 18th greens. The San Roque golf course, along with the clubhouse, was officially opened in 1990. These challenging 18-holes were conceived by Tony Jacklin, ex-Ryder Cup player and Captain, and designed by Dave Thomas, an eminent course designer and fellow ex-Ryder Cup player.
The exquisite San Roque Club hotel, set apart from the clubhouse in stunning individual Andalucian-style bungalows, opened in 1991 to coincide with the Volvo Masters at Valderrama and was the official host to the players. It also hosts the first official event of the European Tour Calendar and is the venue for the PGA Qualifying School finals. It was also the Official Hotel for the European and US Teams during the Ryder Cup at Valderrama in 1997 and hosted the world golf championships in November 2000.
The San Roque Club, a superb residential resort situated in Andalucia, southern Spain, approximately 45 minutes from Malaga and 15 minutes from Gibraltar, extends to some 340 acres of peaceful beautiful countryside. From the original 100 plots available a limited number are still for sale, ranging in size from about 1.800 to 4.000 m2. Average prices for the plots range between 35.000.000 and 80.000.000 Pts (approximately between 210.000 and 490.000 Euros). Annual service and community fees for an average three/four-bedroom house would be in the region of 25.000 Pts per month.
Security is excellent within the estate, which is completely fenced with one main access gate with 24-hour guarded control.
One of the many advantages of San Roque is that it is particularly accessible to many other parts of Spain and even Portugal. Unusually for this area, this estate offers a most beautiful and natural environment guaranteeing a relaxed and private atmosphere for homeowners.
One of the world's greatest golf resorts, The San Roque Club offers its guests outstanding golfing and non-golfing facilities in an exclusive and serenely beautiful setting in the southernmost corner of Andalucia.
Bordered by the majestic Sierra Bermeja Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, The San Roque Club is just five minutes drive from the fashionable port town of Sotogrande and the exquisite Valderrama Golf Club. Gibraltar is only 15 minutes away, Marbella 40 minutes, and Malaga and Jerez (famous for its sherry and horses) just over an hour.
Small, manicured paths lead to the private suites and bedrooms, which are set in individual bungalows in the gardens adjacent to the clubhouse. There are 50 suites and 50 standard double rooms, all of which have their own private patios, marble bathrooms, air conditioning and satellite televisions. Elegantly decorated in traditional Andalucian-style to give them a warm and inviting ambience, the bedrooms offer guests the kind of tranquil privacy needed when on holiday.

Seve Ballesteros Natural Golf School
Opened at the San Roque Club in southern Spain - May 2001
The golfing expertise and inspiration of one of the world's greatest golfers is in southern Spain with the opening of the Severiano Ballesteros Natural Golf School at the San Roque Club, one of Europe's finest golf resorts. The first of its kind anywhere in the world, the school fully opened in May 2001 and is being managed on a day-to-day basis by Seve's brother Vicente Ballesteros, who spent many years on the tour caddying for Seve and is an exceptional teacher in his own right.
Seve's teaching philosophy, which focuses on developing an individual's natural golf swing rather than a manufactured or structured swing, is evident throughout the tuition programmes. Students are taught to think for themselves and focus on each aspect of the game using the fundamental techniques of grip, posture and, above all, establishing a personal, individual feel for the game. The short game - putting, chipping, bunker play and pitching - of all of which Seve is a true master, is highlighted in all the tuition packages.
Bordering the stunning championship golf course at San Roque, the golf school consists of a two-tiered Andalucian-style driving range with 28 bays, three putting greens, two pitching areas, practice bunkers and video swing analysis.
